Opportunity SC: 2018 Kickoff Activities

Wednesday, December 5, 2018
2:00pm - 5:00pm

Poverty Simulator-Facilitated by SC thrive

Nearly 1 in 5 families in South Carolina live below the poverty level and in rural areas those number may be as high as 1 in 3 families. Low-income families have to make life-changing decisions with little resources; decisions that may have a negative impact on their physical and mental health. Participants will experience real-life scenarios of the day-to-day struggles of living in poverty and learn how it impacts our communities and our work in these communities.

Mobile Workshop: Exploring African American History in Myrtle Beach

This tour will feature African American Heritage sites to include an African American school and a farm devoted to recognizing and perpetuating the contributions of African-American farmers.

Borrowing 101: Community Facilities

Join South Carolina Community Loan Fund, the South Carolina Association for Community Economic Development, and Horry County Community Development to learn about applying for and obtaining financing for your community development project. At Borrowing 101 for Community Facilities, you will learn about the loan application process, the basics of project financing, and see examples of successfully financed community facility projects from across the state. This event is free to attend and appropriate for participants at all stages of project development.

This event is hosted in conjunction with South Carolina Community Loan Fund and Horry County Community Development. There is no cost to attend this workshop, but registration is required.
